The Ballroom Dance Team

at Stony Brook University

I spent two years building the Public Relations team, launching new initiatives and doubling our Instagram following.

Graphic Design

I managed the Public Relations team for the Stony Brook University Ballroom Dance Team. So my job among many is to create promotional material for the team. That includes flyers for events that we host. Before taking this position, I had no experience in graphic design, so I had to throw myself into the medium and see what I could create. Over time I learned that my method is storytelling and each post I create tells its own little story.

Video

Youtube is a classic in video marketing and is important for growth but Tik Tok and Instagram reels are a fast growing medium in the social networking industry. So it would behoove any business to utilize them. Our teams target audience is college students at our University so this medium of marketing is perfect.

Ballroom Mag

I had the idea to start a digital magazine to highlight what our team has accomplished. This was a collaborative effort and whether I was photographer or graphic designer on the project, this was definitely my favorite project to work on.

From placing at competitions to bonding as a group, Ballroom Mag tells the stories of our dancers.

Photoshoots

I organized two photoshoots in order to build the confidence of our current and new members and to generate content for future promotional content. My vision for these photoshoots was inspired by editorial and fashion magazines like Vogue. With each picture, I wanted our dancers to feel like they are on the cover of one of these magazines. I encouraged gender bending through ballroom fashion for these shoots since we are an inclusive team and I am very proud of the results.

The photographers involved are Aneri Ladhani, Sabrina Burkey, Wendy Yang, Winnie Chen and myself

Social Media Branding

Another major part of this role is social media branding. It is crucial to have a vision and an overarching theme among all your posts. We didn’t have one cohesive story to tell. Brand and Vision Boards are the perfect way to achieve this.
